Frequently asked questions
Who is ApparelOps for?
Independent clothing brands and small labels that sell online and keep product data in spreadsheets or CSV exports. It is built and run by one person, so it suits small catalogs (roughly 10 to 150 variants) better than large ones.
Who is it not for?
Anyone who needs a sourcing agent, factory introductions, pattern making, grading, legal labeling, customs or tax advice, or ongoing store management. ApparelOps does not manufacture or source garments.
Do the free tools store or send my numbers?
No. The calculators run in your browser, make no network requests, and keep nothing after you close or reload the page. The site also sends a security header that blocks network requests from those pages.
Does the unit-cost estimator convert currencies?
No. The currency box is only a label printed next to results. Use one currency throughout. The tools assume no country rates, labor costs or exchange rates.
What is the difference between markup and margin?
Markup is profit as a share of cost. Margin is profit as a share of price. A 150% markup is a 60% margin. The margin calculator shows both so you do not mix them up. See how it is calculated.
What is in the Starter Toolkit?
Two Excel workbooks (garment costing, supplier quote comparison), a third for product data completeness, two Word templates (RFQ, purchase order), a Word catalog preflight checklist and a PDF guide. The toolkit page lists every file.
Will the toolkit work in Excel and Google Sheets?
It was built and checked in LibreOffice. It uses ordinary functions, but it has not been opened in Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets by the author. If something fails there, email and it will be fixed.
Can the toolkit work out duty, tax, fit or labeling?
No, and it says so. It does not contain duty rates, labeling rules, size charts or fabric data. Use a qualified person for those.
How does the catalog cleanup work?
You send a CSV export and the facts you know. The work is done on that file only. You get your original back untouched, a cleaned copy, a change log, a validation summary and a missing-information report. See the service page and the synthetic sample.
Do you need access to my store?
No. Never send passwords or admin access. If you offer them, they will be refused.
Will the cleaned CSV import without problems?
That cannot be promised. Importing can overwrite data or change variant identifiers. Back up your catalog and test with a few rows first. The cleaned file is not tested inside your store.
Do you invent missing product facts?
No. Missing fabric composition, sizing, care, origin or certifications are flagged for you to supply. Nothing is filled in by guesswork.
How long does a cleanup take?
The target is three business days after we have the file, your facts and an agreed schema. It is a target, not a guarantee.
How do I pay for the cleanup?
By invoice, after we agree the scope in writing. Nothing is charged on this website, and the service is not sold through the toolkit checkout.
How do I pay for the toolkit?
Through a hosted Lemon Squeezy checkout once it opens. Lemon Squeezy is the seller of record. Until then the buy button is disabled and clearly labelled.
What if I am not happy?
The toolkit has a 14-day refund if files are defective or materially not as described. The service has one revision and a written refund approach agreed with the scope. See refunds.
